Garden

The garden is a haven of peace with a great vegetal diversity. You can stroll along the olive trees, the pines and the cypress trees, pick fruits 8 months per year in the vast orchard and throughout the garden and enjoy thousands of plants and flowers, all carefully selected by the owners.

The property covers close to 3 hectares of landscaped gardens and fields. Each space encompasses existing vegetation, typical of the Mediterranean scrubland, specifically from the Alpilles natural parc region.

The Front Garden

The garden in front of the house has been designed around hundred-year-old trees: a fig tree, two olive trees and 15 metres high cypress trees.

The main garden space is a vast lawn situated right in front of the main house and the terraces. It consists of numerous flower beds, tens of white rose bushes, pittosporum, numerous types of sage, spring and summer lilas, oleanders, shrubs and perennials ... between the 15-meter-high cypress trees, the wisterias and the two olive trees.

The main entrance opens up around a basin, surrounded by almond and cypress trees and borderd with salvia, gaura and lavender flowers beds. Here you will find a large lounge area.

The second entrance to the property opens up on the orchard and the kitchen and herbal garden.

The Upper Garden

Stroll along rosemary bordered paths to reach the pool area through pines, olive and oak trees, to play boule in the pines´ shadow or to reach the upper guest house (Mas Garrigue).

The upper part of the property has also flowers all year round and combines flower beds with typical flora from the region along with tamaris and old almond trees... Under the pine trees, you will find a large space to play boule.

During the evening the paths in the garden are lit, so you can enjoy the pool area, the boule area and the outdoor seating areas at night.

The Olive Grove

The olive grove consists of around 200 hundred trees that stretch from south to north on the west side of the property and englobes the pool area. The property produces its own olive oil, which is certified AOP of the highest quality.

Even though they very much look alike, which make it difficult even for expert to differentiate them without their fruits, in reality, there is an important number of olive trees varities . Each variety is used for a different purpose. Some are better pickled, some will be best used for olive paste (traditional tapenade) while others will be pressed to produce oil. In the olive grove, 6 different varieties coexist (Beruguette, Salaminque, Grossane, Verdane, Picholine and Nicoise).

From the olive trees which used to be cultivated on this land for centuries, very few actually resisted the historic cold wave in 1956 reaching temperatures below -20. That is the reason why most of the olive trees in Provence have 3,4 or sometimes 5 feet. They are the offsprings of old olive trees roots that perished that year.

A number of the latter (along with spontaneous younger olive trees) are scattered on the property, but most of the trees in the grove are not older than 60 or 70 years.
